Enclosed Pergola

The project

Altra Planning successfully obtained resource consent for a fully enclosed pergola located within a Landscape Character Area, navigating a complex interpretation of the District Plan which could have resulted in the structure being classified as a residential unit.

Through careful assessment and strategic planning advice, we successfully demonstrated that the structure should not be treated as an additional dwelling, despite the relevant planning provisions. This approach avoided unnecessary development contributions and preserved the property's ability to accommodate a second residential unit in the future, subject to applicable planning requirements.
